Fine China

We had a nice "rebound" ride last Sunday after the rains on Saturday, and Jeanine and Jim combined their two rides to "Wake Up the Bare Knees." Jim brought some maple syrup for everyone to symbolize the Spring awakening, and Jeanine had one rider with bare knees - that all counts. Many thanks to them both! This Sunday is looking sunny and dry after all the April showers this week - a pleasant surprise - so Jeanine has offered to lead her "China Surprise" ride from East Vassalboro on Sunday. Hope to see you then!

SUNDAY, April 30th, EAST VASSALBORO
"China Surprise" - a delightful tour over the hills and dells of Vassalboro and China.
START: 9:30 AM at the Vassalboro Historical Society parking lot at 327 Main Street just north of the China Lake boat landing on Rt. 32 in East Vassalboro (not the boat landing in South China).
DISTANCE: 25 miles.
TERRAIN: moderate, with some hills and flat sections.
HIGHLIGHTS: a selection of great, scenic rural Maine roads with great views of China Lake and surroundings, with a surprise thrown in!
LEADER: Jeanine Libby, jjlibby13@roadrunner.com.

Wake Up!

Next weekend is Earth Day, and we have a double-header lined up!  Saturday will be our annual Wake Up The Earth Ride along the Kennebec River Rail Trail in Augusta, a reasonably flat, mostly off-road route that is a perfect warm-up if you haven't been able to get your bike out much - and it falls on Earth Day this year!  It is a fun ride and features a stop at Slate's Bakery in Hallowell.  Sunday we will head up river to Winslow for another popular early ride, Big G's and Bare Knees, intended to warm things up to shed some layers - plus an optional stop at Big G's for lunch.  Hope you can join us on one ride, or both!

April 22nd, Saturday - AUGUSTA
"Wake Up the Earth" - an early Spring/Earth Day ride along the Kennebec River Rail Trail through Augusta, Hallowell, and Gardiner.
START: 10:00 AM at the Augusta trail head of the rail trail - the municipal parking lot off of Water Street adjacent to the Maine State Housing Authority (353 Water St.) in the shadow of Memorial Bridge.
DISTANCE: 20+ miles
TERRAIN: flat (and we mean flat)
HIGHLIGHTS: EARTH DAY! For many of us, the first ride of the season, a pleasant run along the Kennebec River, with some great natural scenery mixed with some urban vistas, kicking off another great year of cycling. Probable stop at Slate's Bakery in Hallowell!

We Are Fifteen!

The KVBC is turning 15, and we have a 15-mile ride planned to start things rolling!  We will meet at the Vassalboro Town Office in North Vassalboro on Rt.32.  If it is raining and below 50 degrees we may cancel, so be looking for last-minute alerts.  Let's hope for some warmer and dryer weather as I, for one, am looking forward to getting my bike out and putting the snow shovel away.  See You Saturday!

DISTANCE: 15 miles.
