Rolling Barrels

We had a great ride out of Lincolnville last Sunday. Due to coronavirus restrictions, we were unable to visit the Cellar Door Winery as in years past, but the roads were as scenic as ever. Many thanks to David for stepping in to lead the ride for us. This week we may have another winery tour following the ride from Oakland, although pandemic protocols are still in place: bringing masks is recommended and their use will occasionally be required; continue to maintain a healthy distance from others, and please stay home if you are feeling sick. Hope to see you Sunday!

Sunday, August 30 - OAKLAND
"Barreling through Oakland" - a tour around Oakland, Norridgewock, New Sharon, and Smithfield.
START: 9:00 am at Tree Spirits, 152 Fairfield Street (Rt.23) in Oakland (in case the parking area is full, additional parking can be found a short distance away at the Oakland Post Office at the corner of Oakland Road and East School Street).
DISTANCE: about 40 miles.
TERRAIN: moderate with some hills.
HIGHLIGHTS: fine back roads with lakeside views, and a stop at Tree Spirits winery in Oakland.
LEADER: Tammy Jones, tjjones@colby.edu.

Door to the Cellar

We had another splendid ride from Wayne on Saturday, and we had a fine turnout despite some rather cool, cloudy conditions that looked rather unsettled but turned out to be fine. We explored some great back roads, including some new gravel options that really took some of us off the beaten path. Many thanks to Fritz and Susan for leading, and for all who came out! This Sunday we will head out to the coast for a tour around the Camden hills that will feature a stop post-ride at the Cellar Door Winery. Please note the 10 o'clock start, and see you then!

Please park along the winery driveway leading up the hill across from the store, and not in the customer parking lot behind the winery store. The folks at the winery have in the past graciously allowed us access to restrooms and water before the ride, but please NO CLEATS in the building. Thank you.

Still Lots of Riding Ahead - No Wining

We had beautiful weather and a splendid ride on Sunday over some great back roads through Wayne, Fayette, Leeds and vicinity. The scenery was first rate, the company was grand, and we even got treated to lemonade at the summit of Mt. Pisgah! Our thanks to Fritz, who managed to lead the ride on one or more bikes, despite some challenging mechanical difficulties. This Sunday we will head out to Lincolnville and the Cellardoor Winery, situated in an elaborately refinished barn nestled in the hills outside of Camden, and venture out over another very popular route. Hope to see you Sunday!

Cellar Doors in Youngtown

Come join us this Sunday for a special Kennebec Valley Bicycle Club ride in Camden and Lincolnville. This is one of several superb rides scoped out and led by KVBC member Ray Giglio, and it is part of our tribute to Ray that we continue to celebrate his many contributions to the club. Described as a little bit of French wine country in mid-coast Maine, the ride will feature a stop at the Cellardoor Winery, and some back roads in a area that we don't get a chance to ride in (as a group) that often. Part of the route will trace part of the East Coast Greenway, and the ride will have other treats in store. Hope to see you on Sunday!
