Damariscotta on Draft

We had a splendid "Independence Day Ride" last Saturday in Sidney, now in its 16th (or is it 17th?) year, with nothing to hold us up but a cattle crossing in betwixt two interstate on ramps. Yay, Sidney!  And many thanks again to leader, Jim Putnam, and all who took part. This Saturday we will venture down to Damariscotta and a very popular ride down the coast to Pemaquid Point.  Will there be a lobster crossing?  Who knows?  We'll have to find out!

START:  10:00 AM at Hannaford's supermarket, 469 Main Street (Business Rt. 1) in Damariscotta.

Coastal Cool

We've had some hot weather lately, but it was no deterrent to a wonderful ride last Sunday from Sidney.  We had some great roads with new pavement and a fine group out - many thanks to Jim Putman for leading this ride for 16 straight years! This Saturday we will try to beat the heat with a cool ride along the coast from Damariscotta to Pemaquid Point.  The scheduled follow-up ride on Sunday from Boothbay will be a leaderless show-and-go ride for anyone staying over in the area who is looking for a ride to do on Sunday.  See you Saturday, and have a Happy Fourth!

Only Damariscotta

We kicked off July with the 14th annual "Independence Day" ride in Sidney on Saturday. The weather was a bit sticky, but we had a great turn-out of 25 riders who set a brisk pace to avoid the forecast afternoon rains. Many thanks to Jim Putnam and company for a great ride! This Saturday we will revisit one of our popular rides on the coast, cycling from Damariscotta to Pemaquid Point. Please note the 10:00 am start. Also, please be advised that we will be riding from Damariscotta on Saturday and from Boothbay on Sunday this weekend. Hope you can join us, and have a Happy Fourth!

Cundy's on Sundaes

Last Saturday Steve Robe took us on a fun ride going counterclockwise (for a change) around China Lake.  Had to dodge a few raindrops at the start, but the sun came out and it did warm up to the point that it seemed like summer-like weather will soon be here (for a change). Perhaps this Sunday!  Ken Louis has an all-new ride in store for us, starting in Brunswick and stopping in Cundy's harbor.  Forecast says sunny and mid-70s, and we won't take issue with that.  Hope to see you Sunday!
Sunday, June 11 - BRUNSWICK
"Cundy's and Sundaes" - a scenic coastal tour around Brunswick and Cundy's Harbor.
START: 9:30 am at Merrymeeting Plaza, 142 Bath Road (Rt. 24) in Brunswick.  Park to the left, facing Shaw's, in the outer area of the parking lot.
DISTANCE: approx. 27 miles.
TERRAIN: moderate.
HIGHLIGHTS: scenic Cundy's Harbor with an optional stop at Holbrook's Lobster Wharf (where they have ice cream); on the return, a stretch along the Androscoggin River Trail and a lunch option at Wild Oats in Brunswick.
LEADER: Ken Louis, klouis17@hotmail.com.

One if by Land, and Two by the Sea

We had a great ride Saturday in Sidney to kick off the holiday weekend.  Many thanks to Jim Putnam for leading his "Independence" ride up and down the Kennebec and Middle Road, and to the great group of riders who turned out!

We have a "double-header" planned for this weekend.  This Saturday's KVBC ride will return to the scenic Pemaquid Peninsula with a great ride along the shore.  There will be a follow-up ride on Sunday around Boothbay.  These routes are not only scenic, but also a great trip to the coast, and there are many great places to stop and see the sights.  Contact the ride leader for suggestions for overnight accommodations.  Hope you can join us for one or both of these rides!  To those of you with KVBC jerseys, we'd like to get a group picture on one of the rides this weekend, so if you can wear your jersey that would be great! Have a Happy Fourth!

Freeport Freewheeling

Courtesy Bicycle Coalition of Maine - Women's Ride, Freeport
My apologies to one and all for not coming up with a club ride on this beautiful weekend.  I have been out with a miserable cold and the weather is making it all the more miserable.  I hope everyone has been able to get out and ride in this wonderful weather, which looks like it is going to continue for a while.  Ken has put together a great ride in Freeport for next Saturday - a joint ride with the Maine Outdoor Adventure Club (MOAC).  The following Sunday is the Cadillac Challenge, and I believe a number of people have expressed interest in doing that ride as well.  The following weekend we will be in Wayne, and we still have a few openings as we head into late Fall.  If you have any ride suggestions for later in October, please let me know.  Meanwhile enjoy the fine weather and hope to see you next Saturday!

Saturday, October 5th - FREEPORT
"Freeport, Four Bays...and Food" - a coastal tour of numerous bays and inlets around Freeport, and their seaside eateries.
START: 10:00 AM at the information booth in the lower parking lot across from L.L. Bean's Outlet Store.  Turn onto Bow Street in Freeport Center (across from L.L. Bean's Main Store) and then right onto Depot Street to the parking lot (free parking).
DISTANCE: 36 miles with a 26-mile option.
TERRAIN: Rolling with some moderate hills.
HIGHLIGHTS: Freeport, plus views of Merepoint, Maqoit, and Casco Bays, plus the Harraseeket River.  Lunch options at Harraseeket Lobster (cash only) or in Freeport.
LEADER:  Ken Louis.
