Go Forth on the First

Another week, another ride rescheduling.  We seem to be stuck in a showery weather pattern - at least it's not the "heat dome" in the southwest, thankfully.  Saturday now appears to be the drier of the days this weekend, so we will assert our independence (and flexibility) and schedule this weekend's ride for Saturday instead.  Hope to see you then!

Saturday, July 1st, SIDNEY:
"Independence by Bike" - a Middle Road tour through the middle of Sidney & the middle of the Fourth of July weekend.
START:  9:00 AM at the James H. Bean Elementary School on Middle Road in Sidney.
Directions to the Bean School:
From south: I-95 North exit #120. Turn right at end of exit ramp onto Lyons Rd. Follow Lyons Rd. to stop sign. Turn left onto Middle Rd. Bean School is approximately one mile on the right.
From the north: I-95 South exit #120. Turn left at end of exit ramp onto Lyons Rd. Follow Lyons Rd. to stop sign. Turn left onto Middle Rd. Bean School is approximately one mile on the right.
DISTANCE:  16 or 29 Miles.
TERRAIN:  moderate with a few hills.
HIGHLIGHTS:  some fine back roads and Kennebec River views, and some Fourth of July paraphernalia, most likely.
LEADER:  Jim Merrick, hjmerrick@gmail.com, 293-3784.

Go Forth on the Second

It was mostly cloudy and humid for the KVBC ride from Mt. Vernon on Saturday.  We did manage to dodge (most of) the rain.  We had a few sprinkles towards the end of the ride, but much of it held off until the ride was over, and the ride itself was quite pleasant.  We move right on into July with our next ride - a traditional jaunt through Sidney and North Augusta on the Fourth of July weekend.  Hope to see you there, and otherwise have a great holiday!

Sunday, July 2nd, SIDNEY:

How Many Ponds in Eleven?

After a weekend of very wet weather we were finally able to get in a ride from Winslow on Monday, Juneteenth. Mostly cloudy - but dry! - and we did see some sun, and the roads were in fine shape.  Many thanks to Steve for leading and being flexible in rescheduling his ride, and to everyone who turned out on a Monday morning.  We are supposed to see warmer weather and the beginning of Summer this week as we plan for our last club ride in June on Saturday in West Mt. Vernon.  Hope to see you there!

Saturday, June 24 - WEST MOUNT VERNON
"Eleven Ponds" - a tour past many of the hidden ponds and lakes in Mount Vernon, Fayette, Chesterville, and Vienna.
START:  9:00 AM, at the boat landings on Echo Lake and Taylor Pond on Rt. 41 at the junction of Sandy River Road; the nearest street address is 1156 ME-41. There is a bridge and a dam and a free-standing brick chimney as landmarks. Park in either boat landing lot on opposite sides of the road.
DISTANCE:  14 and 29 miles.

HIGHLIGHTS:  rural back roads winding through many small ponds and lakes, and across the top of the Chesterville Esker.

Calling Bike Veterans

We had a nice sunny day for a ride on Sunday - finally.  We had a nice group of riders for our circumnavigation of Damariscotta Lake from Jefferson, with lush fields of lupines in abundance, and a fine ice cream stop at the end.  Many thanks to David for leading the ride put together by Bryan & Holly, who we hope to have back with us soon.  We would also like to see more of our stalwart ride members turn out - some of you we haven't seen since the pandemic outbreak (and we really hope you're still with us).  We are always thrilled to see old familiar faces (and bikes).  This Saturday we have an all new ride from the Winslow VFW Hall, and as always, we hope you can join us!

Show Us Your Lupines

We have had a long stretch of good riding weather, but the rains finally caught up with us and the hypothermic conditions over the weekend caused us to cancel the KVBC Sunday ride in Readfield.  Hopefully we will have a chance to reschedule the ride on another open date. Forecasts predict that the cold, rainy weather will break in time for our "Lupine Ride" this Saturday in Jefferson, which, truth be told, is pretty in any weather. Hope you can join us!

KVBC Ride Sunday in Readfield CANCELLED.

We regret to announce that tomorrow's KVBC ride in Readfield on Sunday is cancelled due to forecast weather conditions.  We may reschedule the ride at a later date.  Hopefully the weather will improve for our next scheduled ride, in Jefferson, on Saturday, June 10th.  Until then, safe riding!
