We had splendid weather for a great ride in Wayne on Sunday. Lots of scenic overlooks, river views, vast fields of corn, and for the more adventurous, some interesting gravel roads off the beaten path. All topped off by a stop at Tubby's Ice Cream at the ride's end. Many thanks again to Fritz and Susan for leading and sweeping the ride! Please join us this Saturday on the last day of summer as we welcome the arrival of Fall on our tour around Whitefield and vicinity. See you then!

Rings Around Chelsea
Despite the rather dismal weather forecast prior to Sunday's ride in Damariscotta, we had a good number of riders turn out for a much better than expected ride! Despite the Labor Day weekend, traffic was quite light and there were tables to spare at the restaurant at the half-way point at the Pemaquid Light. Many thanks again to David for leading us down to the sea! This Saturday we will meet in Chelsea and explore the scenic Sheepscot River valley with an ice cream stop near the end. START: 9:00 am, at the Chelsea Town Office, 560 Togus Rd, Rt. 226
DISTANCE: about 34 miles
TERRAIN: rolling hills.
HIGHLIGHTS: lots of scenic rural roads along the Sheepscot River, including the Head Tide Dam (an Historical Landmark); potential stop at The Ice Cream Shoppe in Randolph near the ride's end.

The Chainrings of Chelsea

At long last, we had beautiful weather for our ride from Oakland on
Sunday. We worked our way around spots of road construction, met some
solitary cyclists who may join us on future rides, enjoyed some really
pretty gravel sections, and topped it off with an ice cream stop at the
end. Many thanks to Tammy for leading and for everyone who took
advantage of our rescheduling. This Saturday brings an all-new ride
from Chelsea out around Alna & Head Tide and back through Pittston
& Randolph over some great roads. Hope you can join us!

Ride Update for Saturday in Whitefield
We are still on for our KVBC ride tomorrow in Whitefield, and we are hopeful of getting the ride in from the Whitefield Elementary School on Saturday. Due to road construction, the route has been modified somewhat and shortened to about 28 miles. You will find a link to the revised route below. Hope to see you tomorrow!

Conditions were a bit damp for our ride from Liberty last Saturday, but we did see some sun and dry pavement for a few moments, and we also managed to time the worst downpour for a convenient stop at the Burkettville General Store. Many thanks to Paul for leading, to the friendly storekeepers for shelter, and to all the folks who turned out. This Saturday we will revisit the popular Tour de Whitefield in Amish Country. Amish Roads

The temperatures finally cooled off and gave us a beautiful summer day for our ride out of Oakland last Saturday. A fine group of riders turned out to find lots of scenic back roads, some with new pavement, some with smooth gravel, and many with light traffic. The ice cream stop afterwards was great, too! Many thanks to Tammy for leading! This Saturday will see the return of another popular ride, the Tour de Whitefield. More great riding ahead, and we hope to see you on Saturday!

Got Amish?
We had a beautiful day last Saturday to kick off our rides in August, and we took full advantage by following a very pretty route from Richmond to Wiscasset. Our thanks to David Lipman who scoped out the route, and to all who helped out. This Saturday we will explore a new route on the Tour de Whitefield, another popular ride. We will start this year at the Whitefield Elementary School to take advantage of a larger parking area in which to spread out at the start. Please remember to bring a mask for use when in close proximity with others, maintain a healthy distance otherwise, and please stay home if you are feeling sick. Take care, and see you Saturday!

Aiming for an Amish Ride
Last Saturday we had a great ride from
Richmond to Wiscasset over some really nice back roads, under fair
skies, and in fine company. The stop at Treats bakery was much
appreciated as well. Our thanks to David Lipman for another fine ride.
This Saturday we will return to Whitefield, home to a sizeable Amish
colony, and also home to our ride leaders who are planning both a great
ride and a post-ride lunch at their house. Hope you can join us!

Tour de Whitefield
We had some great riding weather over the
weekend, and David Lipman and company did not let it pass by without
taking full advantage of the opportunity, and we had a great ride from
Damariscotta to Pemaquid on Saturday. Many thanks to David! The Tour de
France is in full swing, and this Sunday we will counter with the Tour

Sculptures on the Back 40
May is Bike Month, and we got off to a fine start last Saturday in
Livermore, led by John Lanoue (thanks John!). We had great weather - and
there's more in store for this week, they say. Hopefully it will last
right into the weekend when we have another great ride planned for
Saturday in Windsor. One of the highlights of the Windsor ride is a stop
at the "Iron Horse" to view the sculpture gardens of Roger Majorowitz,
who passed away late last year at age 83 - his massive steel sculptures
are definitely worth a visit while they still stand in his open field.

"Tour of the Back 40": a tour up and down the banks of the Sheepscot River from Windsor to Alna.
START: 9:00 A.M., at the Windsor Elementary School on Rt. 32, about a mile north from the junction of Rt. 17 and Rt. 32. The school is on the left, northbound.
DISTANCE: 40 miles.
TERRAIN: moderate to hilly.
HIGHLIGHTS: scenic back roads with fine straight runs, the R. Majorowitz Sculpture Garden, and nice views of the Sheepscot, one of the most pristine rivers in the Northeast.

Cinco de Mayo
This week's ride will fall on Sunday, May 5 -
"Cinco de Mayo" and will feature a post-ride potluck at the ride leaders house
in Windsor for all those who are interested. Bud says to bring what you like -
it need not be Mexican (e.g.: the French were also involved in the turmoil at the Cinco de
Mayo, although on the losing end this once). Mexican or French or whatever, we hope to see
you at the Windsor Fairgrounds on Sunday!
Sunday, May 5th - WINDSOR
"Cinco de Mayo" - we kick off Bike Month with a
scenic tour of Whitefield and Windsor.
START: 10:00 am at the Windsor Fairgrounds on Rt.
32 in Windsor - park in the open field across the street from the entrance to
the Fairgrounds.
DISTANCE: 25 miles.
TERRAIN: moderately hilly.
HIGHLIGHTS: fine touring country around Windsor
& Whitefield, and a post-ride potluck at the ride leader's house, about two

A Tour of the Back Forty

Leanne led us out of the Windsor Fairgrounds as we headed south towards Whitefield. We rode along some great back roads past some large, prosperous dairy farms set back from the river among lush, verdant hillsides.

As the ride continued south down towards Alna and Head Tide we encountered a challenging series of short hills. The rains had nurtured an abundance of greenery, and the roads were often lined with wildflowers. We stopped to admire the many metal sculptures at the Iron Horse, the sculpture garden of Roger Majorowitz set in a pastoral setting. Continuing along, we came to the endgame of dairy country: the large manure processing outfits of "Cowshit Corner."

We stopped at the dam on the Sheepscott River with a number of old mills in the background. We watched dense schools of alwives cluster at the face of the dam, working their way up the fish ladder at the far side. There were a pair of fish-monitoring traps set downstream of the dam, and a number of canoes were being launched from the river landing. Leanne gathered us together on the dam for a group photo before we headed back on the return trip. You couldn't ask for a nicer 40-mile ride.
